Homemade Baby Food...not so scary!

That's right...I am making my own baby food. Many have asked if I might have lost my mind but really it's just not that hard. I've always had it in my mind that I wanted to try my hand at making my own baby food, that way I can control what goes into my girls mouths. With a little advice and helpful hints from the girls' Uncle Greg, I was reassured it would be quite easy to do. Aunt Laura and Uncle Greg got me this fantastic book for Christmas. It is a step by step guide to all you need to know about making baby food. On Sunday I made peas and froze it in ice cube trays, and on Monday they were ready to be popped out into freezer bags. My little food processor came in really handy and so did my gun for filling the ice cube trays. On Tuesday I made carrots and sweet potatoes. The sweet potato baby food comes with a funny little story. As some of you may know, I do not like sweet potatoes therefore I have never baked a sweet potato in my life. I poked them with a fork as I would any potato and popped them in the oven directly on the rack with our dinner on Tuesday night. In about 40 minutes I thought I smelled something burning and thought I had burned our dinner. When I opened the oven I noticed a little bit of the potatoes had gushed out onto the bottom of my just cleaned oven and proceeded to burn. Needless to say they were so easy to make baby food out of once I got past the baking of them. Mental note put them on a baking sheet. Later this week I will be making avocado and acorn squash.

I have another addiction to confess to....

With the weather being so darn cold (last night it got down to 26 degrees at my house and tonight we are expecting around 20 degrees)(I know what you all are thinking...that's not cold compared to the rest of the country...but this is Florida we are talking about) it has been perfect to have a cup of yummy tea in the afternoon and evenings. It all started when Joe's Aunt Gesa came to visit for the girls baptism. She brought with her this really yummy tea that she so nicely shared with us. I looked a few places for the tea and couldn't find it...then in the mail just in time for Christmas a package arrives with 3 boxes of that yummy tea. One of the best things about this tea is there is no need for honey or sugar. It is cinnamon and delicious! Joe and I have been enjoying ever since then, but as we opened the last box I began to get sad thinking we would soon be out. With great pleasure while I was picking up a few items at Publix on Saturday I found that oh so yummy tea!!!! I really thought I was going to have to break down and buy it off the internet.

5 Months Old!

The twins are officially 5 months old. Wow how time flies. December 2008 and January 2009 have so far been busy months for them. The girls starting eating solid foods beginning in December with rice cereal being their first. We took them on their first road trips to Largo and Gainesville . The girls are currently working on rolling over. Chloe accomplished rolling from her belly to her back on this past Sunday afternoon. They are growing so big now...Abby is just over 14 lbs and Chloe is just over 13 lbs.

*Here is a video of Chloe eating her first bites of peas....

The Safe Bather WINS!!!

Giving the girls their every other day bath was fun but the tub was not. It was awkward, always leaked even when it was snapped open per the instructions, the girls kicked and hit their arms on it and there was never a good place to store it. A few weeks ago we were given the Safe Bather from our friends Mike and Bridget. I had never seen nor heard of it, but let me just say it makes bath time so much better. It's basically a big cushion you lay in the tub that the baby lays on. *This baby is not ours:)
Nothing hard to hit arms or legs on, no leaks and storage is easy because it hangs to dry in the shower and then we hang it on the back of the bathroom door until the next bath. I'm always about good advice and helpful hints from those who have been there and done that so if you know someone who has a baby this is a great gift!!!! (or just tell them about it)

We're Addicted...

It's official, Joe and I are addicted to the television series Planet Earth. They have begun reshowing the series on tv and our problem began on Friday night. We watched two on Friday night and four on Sunday night. It's hard to pick out my favorites from each show but here are a few...
Freshwater- The swimming elephants were amazing. I didn't even know they could swim. I also loved the monkeys tip toeing through the water. They looked as if they were afraid to get wet.
Pole to Pole- My fav was the emperor penguins. Their journey is so miraculous. It's amazing the babies survive!
Deserts- The adorable flat rainbow belly lizards won me over in this episode. They would all come to one spot everyday to leap for their lunch. It was really cute to watch.
Shallow Seas- The time lapsed video does it for me every time! They showed the starfish moving on the ocean bottom...remarkable to say the least.
Caves- This was my favorite episode yet! Each and every cave was incredible but my fav was the crystal cave in New Mexico. Gorgeous, untouched and never filmed before.
Forests- The sparkly Arctic forest was breath taking. Not only was it beautiful but it seasonally changes our atmosphere!

If you haven't seen this series yet, I highly recommend it! Learn about our planet and how we are affecting it every day. We only have one.
